Hey, baby. 10:20:26 You've got a friend. Hey baby, you've got a friend. 10:20:36 Thank you, Bradley. Thank you, Mel. 10:20:44 Well, welcome to Pilgrim House. We are a lay-led fellowship welcoming all regardless of race, gender. 10:20:51 Sexual or spiritual orientation. We have no creed. 10:20:55 Rather, we encourage the openness to ideas. 10:20:58 Here we explore, develop, and apply our own individual beliefs with the acceptance and the encouragement. 10:21:05 of our fellow pilgrims. 10:21:07 We also welcome the spirits of those who came before us on this land. 10:21:12 The last being the Dakota. 10:21:15 We have no recourse what was done to them. 10:21:18 We can only hope that they approve of the use we are making of their land. 10:21:24 I like the chalice this morning for music. 10:21:27 It isn't one of our principles, but it ought to be. 10:21:31 Bill would agree. 10:21:35 Music in itself is healing. 10:21:44 His explosive expression of humanity. 10:21:48 It is something we are all touched by. 10:21:51 No matter what culture we are from. 10:21:56 music finds a way to that secret place in your soul. 10:30:29 Kate Behan was here. 10:30:31 Because I won her. 10:30:36 I really did. Lyric Arts, the theater in Anoka, she had put herself up for 10:30:42 Forbid and I put in a bid for 10:30:45 Suddenly, I had her for a day. 10:30:49 And so I gave her to you. 10:30:53 There were people here who 10:30:55 Signed the cards and said. 10:30:57 Best program we ever had. 10:31:01 I've been trying to get her back since. 10:31:05 Kate is here in Pilgrim House. 10:31:09 by way of Anoka. 10:31:11 Broadway and then here. 10:31:15 She's a local actress and singer who performs 10:31:19 locally and nationally. 10:31:21 And is back to present a program on 10:31:23 Broadway and jazz songs for the holiday season. She's accompanied by her brother bradley. 10:31:30 Who's also nationally. 10:31:32 and locally known for performing and directing. 10:31:36 So enjoy the music. 10:31:38 It's going to be a memorable program. 10:31:41 Okay, congrats. 10:31:46 Thank you for having us. Mel, we so appreciate your support of the arts and the community. The fact that you were at Lyric Arts 10:31:54 For that fundraiser, donating to myself. Just so you know, I do auction myself off in a musical way. 10:32:03 I feel in good company to clarify that. And so what I do is I donate myself and a pianist to events. So you can bid and you can say, then you have two years to claim me. 10:32:14 did share me with the Pilgrim House and I'm so grateful. And when he asked us to come back. 10:32:18 We didn't hesitate. We have mostly holiday tunes for you, some jazz tunes. 10:32:23 And we really hope you enjoy it. Again, this is my brother, Bradley. 10:32:27 My older brother, Bradley, in case you're wondering. 10:32:31 Enjoy. 10:32:37 When it's a Christmas tune, please don't hesitate to join us. 10:32:46 Snow is blissing. 10:32:50 A beautiful song. 10:32:52 Walking in a winter wonderland. Gone away is the bluebird here to stay is the new bird. 10:33:02 He sings a love song as we go along. Walking in a winter wonderland. 10:33:10 In the matter we can build a snowman. 10:33:13 And pretend that he is parsing around. He'll say, are you married? We'll say no, ma'am. 10:33:20 But you can do the job while you're in town. 10:33:23 Later on, we'll conspire as we dream by the fire. 10:33:30 The plans that we made. Andrew Wonderland. 10:33:37 In the meadow we can build a snowman. 10:33:41 And pretend that he is a circus clown. 10:33:44 We'll have lots of fun with Mr. Snowman until the other kiddos kick him down. 10:33:51 When it snows, ain't a thrilling. Though you know. 10:33:58 Walking you into Wonderland. 10:34:06 Walking in a winter. 10:34:22 Kate and I have spent years in other… 10:34:26 places besides Minnesota for the holidays. And it's nice that we've been back in Minnesota together for a chunk of time now. 10:34:36 But yeah, this song is reminiscent of those times we spent New York or Florida or Cincinnati or wherever else the world took us. Never forget Cincinnati. Never forget. That was just me. Oh, there's… 10:34:48 No place like home for the holidays. 10:34:53 Because no matter how far away you are. 10:34:59 When you pine for the sunshine of a friendly gaze. For the holidays you can't beat home sweet home. 10:35:11 I met a man who lives in Tennessee and he was had it for 10:35:17 Pennsylvania and some homemade pumpkin pie. 10:35:23 From Pennsylvania folks 10:35:25 traveling down to Dixie's sunny shore From Atlantic to Pacific G, the traffic is terrific. Oh, there's no place like home for the 10:35:41 Because no matter how far away you roam. 10:35:47 If you want to be happy in a million ways for the holidays you can. 10:35:56 Be at home sweet home. 10:36:02 Thank you, Radley. Yeah, I remember… 10:36:05 Bradley and I have spent some of our Christmases away together. We had some fun 10:36:10 New York Christmases together living on nickels and dimes, but being home together. 10:36:16 And doing these types of things 10:36:18 is a little kid's dream. 10:36:21 This song has nothing to do with my brother. 10:36:27 Santa, baby, just slip a sable under the tree. 10:36:32 For me. 10:36:34 So hurry down and chimney tonight. 10:36:40 I like this one. 10:36:43 Santa, baby, a 54 convertible too. Light blue. 10:36:50 So hurry down the chimney tonight. 10:37:00 Think of all the fun I missed. Think of all the fellas that I 10:37:08 Next year I could be just as 10:37:12 If you'll check off my Christmas list 10:37:16 Scent of honey. Forgot to mention one little thing. A ring. 10:37:23 So hurry down that you need a night. 10:37:33 Santa cutie. 10:37:35 Fill my stockings with a duplex and checks 10:37:43 So hurry down the chimney tonight. 10:37:50 Santa, honey, I want a yacht and really that's not. Ha la. 10:38:01 Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight. 10:38:04 Here's where she gets greedy. 10:38:08 Come and trim the Christmas tree with some decorations. 10:38:14 by Tiffany 10:38:17 Believe in you. 10:38:22 Believe in me. 10:38:24 Santa, baby. 10:38:27 I forgot to mention one little thing that rang. 10:38:31 So hurry now that you need a night. 10:38:39 So hurry down the chimney tonight. 10:38:43 So hurry down the chimney tonight. 10:38:49 Thank you. 10:38:55 This next song I did… 10:38:58 When I did A Lonely Christmas in Indiana, I was in the middle of nowhere, Indiana, and I did a, what? Are you from Indiana? 10:39:06 Where was I? I was in Huffington or New Huntington. Huntington. 10:39:11 Indiana, and I did a Christmas show every night and 10:39:16 one of the composers connected tried to fit as many holidays into one holiday song as he could. So I think we get like 30 holidays here in about 10:39:27 One and a half minutes. This is called Season's Greetings. 10:39:31 See if you catch them all. 10:39:37 Season's greetings. 10:39:39 Merry Christmas. 10:39:42 And a happy new year. 10:39:46 Bonoya. 10:39:52 April Fool's lots of… 10:39:53 Easter cheer. 10:39:58 Joyous tidings on your birthday. And on March 17th. 10:40:07 Won't you? 10:40:13 Happy Halloween. 10:40:18 Have a happy Labor Day. Don't 10:40:23 Forget good neighbor days. 10:40:27 merry mayday happy payday. 10:40:33 Have yourself a nice, just me day while you're giving. 10:40:41 Thanksgiving shine on. 10:40:44 Harvest Woon. 10:40:48 Botching up your overcoat. Peace on earth get out and vote. 10:40:58 And get… 10:41:06 soon. 10:41:08 Thank you. 10:41:13 So speaking of New York, New York at Christmas time is you can't miss it. If you can go, if you ever have the ability to go and see the tree. 10:41:21 and see the hustle and bustle. It's like the movies. You will not. 10:41:26 You will not regret it. And though I am 10:41:27 I am very much done with the New York chapter of my life. 10:41:31 There are times when Bradley and I will get together and think, oh my gosh, only… 10:41:35 Only in New York can you get that slice of pizza at 2 o'clock in the morning. Only in New York can you take 10:41:40 The subway from Queens where you live to see your brother in Brooklyn, which should be only 10:41:45 About five miles as the crow flies, but it takes two and a half hours because the subways aren't working and all you want to do is just see your brother. 10:41:52 And practice for an audition only in New York. This song is from New York. 10:42:00 wonders of the world are said to stop at seven. 10:42:04 But truth to tell, my fingers don't agree. 10:42:08 I never eliminate with one so close to heaven. 10:42:15 The others fail. 10:42:17 Their magic stale. 10:42:20 Just take a look. 10:42:24 And sing. 10:42:27 Step right up. 10:42:30 To treasure I… 10:42:33 Every inch of it, a sky high mile. Fairy tale land. 10:42:40 Only in New York. 10:42:44 Hey, Castle Builder! 10:42:47 Want the moon. 10:42:48 Nothing less. Work four years then. 10:42:53 Overnight success. 10:42:55 I know firsthand. 10:42:58 Only in New York. Each day it's free. 10:43:04 Admission to those who dream. 10:43:09 You set your sights all the way upstream. 10:43:13 Off you go, for you know that 10:43:22 that wish. Seek that thrill. 10:43:27 Come and get it, cause you always will. 10:43:30 Strike up the vale. 10:43:34 Only New York. 10:43:37 Each day it's free. Admission to those who dream. 10:43:43 You set your sights all the way up serene. 10:43:48 Off you go, for you know that cream will rise. 10:44:01 Interchanging, yet it never changes all. 10:44:05 Life on Come Out. 10:44:08 Hear what I'm saying. No, but it's grand. That's why I'm staying right here as planned. 10:44:18 Only New York. 10:44:22 Mommy, New York. 10:44:28 New York. 10:44:39 Thank you, Bradley. 10:44:41 Thank you. 10:44:45 Go ahead, Brad. So another non-holiday tune. I… 10:44:52 So, I don't know if anyone's been paying attention, but the world can be a little heavy at times. 10:44:57 Just a tad. And this song came about, it's from a musical called When Pigs fly. 10:45:04 That was written in like the early 90s. And it's not well known. 10:45:08 But there's some of these unknown musicals that have some of the most iconic songs. 10:45:12 And they just need to be shared. And Bette Midler used to do this one iconically in the 90s. 10:45:19 And I just find it so apropos still to this day. 10:45:23 It's called Laughing Matters. 10:45:29 Live at 5 and CNN, keep us all abreast of breaking stories that can tend to make us anxious and depressed. 10:45:40 Problems with no answers. Hang on like some nagging cough. 10:45:45 And every day some brand new issue rears its tattoo. 10:45:50 Piss us off. 10:45:53 Bad guys win. 10:45:55 Optimism's wearing thin. 10:45:58 Things are spinning out of control. Cynicism is all the fad. 10:46:05 World events can make us mad as hatters. 10:46:09 Almost every day. 10:46:12 Some underpinning goes away. 10:46:15 These aren't laughing matters. 10:46:20 Time bombs tick. People keep on getting sick. 10:46:25 And a nickel's not worth a cent. Wickedness and greed abound. 10:46:31 Just as peace is gaining ground, it shatters. Hate is here to stay. 10:46:39 And justice goes to those who pay. 10:46:43 These aren't laughing matters. 10:46:46 The truth is scarier by far. 10:46:51 than anything that Stephen King could write. The stories in the paper are… 10:47:00 A daily small decline in fall spelled out in black and white. 10:47:09 What to do. 10:47:10 How to keep a brighter view. 10:47:14 When your noodles totally fried, human spirits need to be leavened by some levity. So take those blues and bounce them off the wall. Keep your humor, please. Cause don't you know in times like these 10:47:34 That laughing matters most of all. 10:47:52 Thank you. 10:47:55 We are so close to Christmas. 10:48:08 Chestnuts roasting on an open fire. 10:48:13 Jack Frost nipping at your nose. 10:48:18 Yuletide carols being sung by a choir and folks dressed up like Eskimos. 10:48:28 Everybody knows. 10:48:29 A turkey and some mistletoes. 10:48:34 Help to make the seasons bright. 10:48:40 Tiny tots with their eyes all aglaw will find it hard to sleep. 10:48:47 Tonight. 10:48:49 They know that Santa's on his way. He's loading lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh. 10:48:59 And every mother's child is gonna spy. 10:49:05 To see if reindeer really know. 10:49:09 How to fly. 10:49:12 And so I'm offering this simple phrase. 10:49:17 to kids from one to ninety two. 10:49:22 Although it's been said 10:49:25 Many times, many ways, Merry Christmas to you. 10:49:58 They know that's sad. 10:50:00 He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh. 10:50:08 And every mother's child. 10:50:13 To see if reindeer really knew how to fly. 10:50:19 And so. 10:50:21 I'm offering this simple phrase. 10:50:26 to kiss from one to ninety two. 10:50:31 Although it's been said 10:50:34 Many times men he wins. 10:50:39 Merry Christmas. 10:50:42 To you. 10:50:58 I don't know if anyone does holiday specials better than the Peanuts holiday specials. 10:51:09 Christmas time is here. 10:51:15 Happiness and shame. 10:51:19 Fun for all that children call. 10:51:23 Their favorite time. 10:51:27 Snowflake seen the air. Carol's everywhere. 10:51:37 Olden times and ancient rhymes 10:51:42 love and dreams to share. 10:51:45 Sleep helps in the air. 10:51:52 everywhere. 10:51:58 Enjoy the memories there. 10:52:03 Christmas time is here. 10:52:07 We'll be training. 10:52:11 Oh, that we could 10:52:13 we see such spirit through the 10:52:51 the air beauty everywhere. 10:53:00 Still tied by the fireside. 10:53:03 Enjoy memories there. 10:53:08 Christmas time is here. 10:53:12 We'll be trying you. 10:53:16 Oh, that we… 10:53:18 could always see. 10:53:20 Such spirit through. 10:53:42 can be a little tumultuous. 10:53:46 I believe every lyric of this song. 10:53:49 I see trees of green red roses too. 10:53:58 I see the bloom. 10:54:03 And I think to myself. 10:54:08 What a wonderful word. 10:54:16 I see skies are blue. 10:54:20 And clouds white. 10:54:24 pride must entertain the dark sacred night. And I think to myself. 10:54:34 What a wonderful word. 10:54:42 The colors of the rainbow. 10:54:45 So pretty in the sky. 10:54:49 are also on the faces of people going by. I see friends shaking hands. 10:54:58 Sina, how do you do? 10:55:02 They're really saying, I love you. 10:55:07 I hear babes crying. 10:55:12 Watch them grow. 10:55:15 They'll learn much more than I'll ever know. 10:55:20 And I think to myself. 10:55:25 What a wonderful world. 10:55:33 Yes, I think to myself. 10:55:38 What a wonderful… 10:55:47 Oh, yeah. That's it. 10:55:51 That's what we paid for. 10:55:56 I used to love listening to the Carpenters growing up because Karen Carpenter sang low. 10:56:01 And I like to sing the alto line. So here's for Karen Carpenter. 10:56:07 Greeting cards have all been sent. 10:56:11 The Christmas rush is through. 10:56:16 But I still have one wish to make. 10:56:23 A special one for you. 10:56:28 Merry Christmas, darling. 10:56:34 We report that's true. 10:56:43 I'm Christmassy 10:56:50 All the days are joyful. 10:56:54 There's always something 10:57:00 But every day. 10:57:02 Praise our holiday. 10:57:05 When I'm near to you. 10:57:09 The lights on my tree. 10:57:12 I wish you could see. 10:57:15 I wish it every day. 10:57:20 The logs on the fly. 10:57:27 To see you and to say that I wish 10:57:32 Merry Christmas 10:57:36 Happy New Year to you. 10:57:40 Oh, I just want wish on this Christmas Eve. 10:57:46 I wish I were with you. 10:58:01 The logs wanna fall. 10:58:03 Fill me with Jesus. 10:58:12 That I wish you… 10:58:14 Merry Christmas. 10:58:19 Happy New Year to you. 10:58:23 Why just one wish on this Christmas Eve. 10:58:28 I wish I were with you. 10:58:35 I wish I were with 10:58:41 You 10:58:46 Thank you. 10:58:53 Back to the peanuts again, just for a little piano interlude. 11:00:44 I love crowd participation. 11:00:48 We were asking last night at my other job, I work as a beer tender. 11:00:52 And we were asking everyone's favorite holiday movie. And I was saying mine is actually a VHS tape that we had from the late 80s, early 90s that has peanuts on it. It was taped off TV. It has Garfield, the Garfield special. It has the Rudolph one. And it has Frosty. And they were all taped from Channel 5, but they have the commercials 11:01:11 from 1990, you know, truly. So it's click and lock for the most wanted 11:01:17 Click unlock. Click and lock. It was just pieces of plastic that clicked together and then locked. And you could make big long lines or like squares. You know what else? On that VHS, the California Raisins Christmas special. The California raisins where they all got a little bit high and then made a special. It's very, very intense. 11:01:34 But one thing holds true for me and that is that I am a snow, like I need snow on the holidays. So I'm going to sing this song. I am going to will us to have 11:01:44 the whitest Christmas. 11:01:55 I'm dreaming. 11:01:59 Christmas. 11:02:02 Just like the ones I used to know. 11:02:09 Where the treetops glisten and children. 11:02:15 Listen to hear sleigh vows in the snow. 11:02:25 I'm dreaming the white Christmas. 11:02:33 With every Christmas card I write. 11:02:38 May your days be merry. 11:02:44 And may all your grace. 11:02:50 Mrs. 11:02:55 Now, Kate and I differ a little bit here because… 11:02:59 Being from Minnesota, yes, I thought my entire life that I couldn't live without a white Christmas. 11:03:04 And that was until I went down and did a holiday show in West Palm Beach, Florida. 11:03:10 And I said, oh, this is what Christmas is like without no snow. This is kind of amazing. So I've changed the lyrics to this. Sing along if you know them. 11:03:21 But… 11:03:22 This is how I'm feeling these days. I'm dreaming 11:03:28 of a green Christmas. 11:03:33 With every SPF I buy. 11:03:39 Where the beaches glisten and chill. 11:03:45 listen to hear seagulls flying by. 11:03:52 Aye. 11:03:54 I'm dreaming 11:03:57 of a green christmas just like 11:04:01 On films and on TV. 11:04:06 May your days 11:04:09 Be warm and snow free. 11:04:14 And may all 11:04:17 Your Christmas sins. 11:04:21 Be green. 11:04:32 I will say, I don't like driving in the snow. So the one, you know what I mean? If it's safe, then I guess I'll have a green Christmas. 11:04:38 And if you want to take us to Florida sometime, I'll go with you. It's out of the budget currently. It's out of the budget. Here's a little non-Christmas for you. 11:04:51 stars shining bright above you. 11:04:56 Ny breezes seemed to whisper, I love you. Birds singing in the sycamore tree. 11:05:04 Dream a little dream of me. 11:05:10 Say nighty night and kiss me. 11:05:15 Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me. 11:05:20 Bide in your dreams, whatever they be. Dream a little dream of me 11:05:32 Stars fading, but I linger on dear. 11:05:35 Still craving your care. 11:05:39 Longing to linger till dawn. 11:05:44 Just saving me. 11:05:48 Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you. 11:05:53 Sweet dreams that leave are worries far behind you but in your dreams, whatever they be. 11:06:02 Dream a little dream of me. 11:06:11 I highly recommend having your brother play the piano for you. 11:06:16 Just look at a mini-dig. 11:06:21 Give it up for Bradley Bian. 11:06:25 Sauce fading, but I 11:06:27 My legs are on deer. 11:06:30 Still craving a kick. 11:06:35 I'm longing to linger till dawn. 11:06:39 Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you. 11:06:47 Sweet dreams of evil worries fall behind you bar. 11:06:53 In your dreams, whatever they be 11:06:55 Dream a little dream of me. 11:07:10 Dream a little dream of me. 11:07:15 Thank you, Brad. 11:07:24 I… 11:07:25 Someday should do an entire cabaret of my life in Christmas. Because I'm grateful that every year for the last 24 years I've professionally done some sort of Christmas show somewhere. 11:07:37 And the one show that launched my career into professional theater was a show called 11:07:41 plaid tidings. It's the Christmas version of a show called Forever Plaid. 11:07:45 And I did the show originally at the Ordway in 2001. 11:07:49 And that was like the launch into my career. And then I did that show kind of all over the country. And the last time I performed it was off-Broadway in New York. 11:07:55 And then it was the first show I ever music directed here at Inoka at Lyric Arts Theater. 11:08:01 And this song from the show is just one of my absolute favorites. And I hope you like it as well. 11:08:32 It's the most wonderful time. 11:08:37 of the year. 11:08:41 There'll be much mistletoeing. 11:08:44 And hearts will be glowing when loved ones are near. 11:08:51 It's the most. 11:08:54 wonderful time. 11:08:59 Merry Christmas. 11:09:02 Have a very, very Merry Christmas. Dream about. 11:09:08 your heart's designers. 11:09:10 Christmas Eve and you retire. Santa Claus will stop. 11:09:16 And I know he'll drop exactly what you wanted on your chimney top. 11:09:25 So be Charlie. 11:09:28 Have a holiday. 11:09:32 Jean about the ones we're near you. 11:09:35 With a laugh of friends to cheer you When the church 11:09:40 ring like the angels sing And you hear the joyful hymn they chide. 11:09:50 Hang a wish. 11:09:54 On your Christmas tree for a very merry Christmas time. 11:10:07 Hang a wish for me. 11:10:11 On your Christmas tree for a very merry Christmas time. 11:10:23 It's the most. 11:10:26 Wonderful time. 11:10:44 Thank you. 11:10:48 I have such memories of going. I was in middle school when Brad started doing shows at the Ordway. 11:10:54 in St. Paul, beautiful ordway over Rice Park with the lit up trees and 11:10:59 Mom and dad would take me and I would see him on stage specifically in 11:11:03 in plaid tidings and I thought I want to be that when I grow up. And I've always wanted to be like Bradley. 11:11:09 When I grow up and I still aspire to, but it is incredible 11:11:12 to be able to share these moments together. I never thought we'd be this lucky. 11:11:16 And so I sing one more song for you, but I want to 11:11:19 Mel again for having us come out. Thank you for bringing us into your space. These spaces are intimate and to bring in new people I know is sort of your MO, but I do realize that we are visitors here. So thank you for having us. We're so grateful. 11:11:32 Bradley and I are singing at Crooners again. If you've ever been to Crooners, it's a jazz club. 11:11:37 In Fridley. We're there on December 29th and we're doing a night of showstoppers and fresh starts. 11:11:43 for the new year, so lots of big numbers, you know, like, don't tell me not to live. I simply got a lot of that with some fresh new songs for starting new. 11:11:52 And we have two amazing Broadway jazz singers that are going to join us. So December 29th, there's a 11:11:57 a 4.30 Sunday show if you want to join us. 11:12:01 But in the meantime, we probably won't see you before the new year. So here's a song. 11:12:05 Bette Midler also made this one famous for me. 11:12:16 When the bells all ring. 11:12:20 And the horns all blow. 11:12:24 And the couples we know. 11:12:27 I finally kissing. 11:12:31 Will I be with you? 11:12:33 Or will I be among… 11:12:42 Maybe it's much too early in the game. 11:12:48 Oh, but I thought I… 11:12:50 I ask you just the same. 11:12:53 What are you doing? 11:12:56 New. 11:13:02 Wonder whose arms will hold you good and tight. 11:13:08 What it's exactly 12 o'clock that 11:13:12 welcoming in the new year. 11:13:19 Easy. 11:13:22 Maybe I'm crazy. 11:13:25 To suppose. 11:13:28 I'd ever be though. 11:13:33 Out of a flounder. 11:13:36 Just in case I… 11:13:45 Send one little chant. 11:13:48 Here comes a jackpot question in advance. 11:13:53 What are you doing New Year's? 11:14:22 Ah, just in case I stand one little chair. 11:14:27 Here comes a jackpot. 11:14:33 What are you doing? 11:14:36 No. 11:14:44 Happy holidays. 11:15:02 B, we have a few minutes more. 11:15:06 We could maybe talk to them in an encore. 11:15:08 Or maybe somebody has a question or two. Could you do that? Yes. 11:15:11 Abby and I can play for you for four hours. 11:15:22 Mel must be done. No. 11:15:27 I will turn it on. 11:15:31 Do you have any siblings that are also singers? Yes. So my brother, Bob. 11:15:36 So to give you an idea, I was born in 87. Bob was born in 85. Brad was born in 80. So I'm the youngest. Bob is the middle child. He's an amazing… 11:15:46 percussionist. He's an amazing percussionist and he's been on tour with a couple of bands as what's called a drum tech. 11:15:53 So Bob tours with big bands, sets up their drum sets, and makes sure that they're set. So he's been with Jenny Lewis and Brandi Carlisle and 11:16:00 A couple other really big names. And while he's been on tour on these buses traveling the country, he's learned a bunch of instruments from these amazing musicians. I mean, he meets an incredible 11:16:11 people. And every time he comes back from tour, he's learned a new instrument or 11:16:17 harnessed his vocal skills. And so Bobby has a beautiful voice and Bob has played crooners with us before with a guitar, with a drum, and with singing now too. So we have Bobby and Brad and Kate. 11:16:31 And I was not named a bee because it's Robert. 11:16:34 Bradley and Caitlin, not Bob, Brad and Caitlin. 11:16:37 But yes, you'll meet Bob sometime. 11:16:43 They always say our talents are always 11:16:47 driven, practiced. 11:16:49 But genetic. So where is your genetic? 11:16:52 parents, grandparents. It's true. And, you know, it is a difficult conversation to have because I've been we've been asked in our lifetimes to teach young children 11:17:02 And there is a truth behind the science of ear, inner ear pedagogy and how you're built. And there are some people who genetically 11:17:09 cannot match pitch. So if I were to say happy birthday to you, they can't even find that pitch. It's a difficult place to start to teach somebody because it's not their fault. 11:17:17 the same way your height is not determined. 11:17:20 It is genetic, very much so. Both of our parents are phenomenally talented 11:17:25 But raised in a very… 11:17:28 strict enough Lutheran homes where exploring music wasn't necessarily a priority. 11:17:33 Because no one had done it before. And my parents 11:17:37 Let us pursue it not only in school. 11:17:40 at a high school level, but when we dared to say, what about college, they said yes because something genetic 11:17:45 that can't be taught, can be embraced. The same way if you had a young child who was quite good at a sport. 11:17:50 You can tell, you know, they're just built for it. And I'm so lucky that whoever created us. 11:17:55 took a little extra time on the vocal cord area. I'm very grateful. I can't parallel park on the left-hand side, but I can… 11:18:03 I can sing a lot of different types of things. 11:18:08 Yes. But everyone has talent. Exactly. It isn't necessarily singing or playing. 11:18:14 That's the best part about being in this industry is realizing that the people that create our costumes, you know how this works. Anytime you're involved in a massive project, the talents come from everywhere. 11:18:25 We just get to stand in the center of all of it. 11:18:27 Karen, for instance, this morning trimmed the tree. 11:18:30 And Gary was really good at… 11:18:33 Yeah, Gary was really good at watching her. 11:18:36 I have a question. Does trimming the tree mean placing gifts upon it? 11:18:41 So when you said I untrimmed the tree. 11:18:45 The tree originally was a giving tree for Alexander House. Oh, I understand. And then they took everything off to give it to the Alexander House in Carrington this morning and put the… 11:18:56 I loved hearing about the Alexander House. That is such an amazing… 11:19:01 giving tree to give to. 11:19:05 You don't have any really bad stories about them, do you? 11:19:10 We were annoyingly straight A students, Bradley and I. We took schooling very seriously. We were those kids where you're like, you can calm down. It's just 10th grade geometry. Like, I must get an A. 11:19:20 I will say something I just learned about that brief conversation. 11:19:24 that I thought was very powerful as a former educator. They both said they got very involved in 11:19:32 social causes in high school. 11:19:33 It was during Kate was… 11:19:35 with a group called Students Against War, when the Iraq War. 11:19:39 happened and Bradley talked about… 11:19:43 advocating for HIV education. 11:19:45 in health classes when he was just coming out of middle school, which is pretty profound stuff. 11:19:52 So I just think that's wonderful and a wonderful testament to your 11:19:55 ability to get involved and as you said, continue to try to save the world. 11:19:59 Yeah. And music does that too. I do believe that, you know, what impact we can have with our music and having it be a therapeutic 11:20:07 experience for people and escapism is okay. Coming and listening to music for 90 minutes 11:20:12 And forgetting about world's trouble is okay and embracing entertainment as escapism in this world is fine. But we had an amazing, Anoka High School was such an incredible place to explore music, culture, all different types of things. 11:20:25 We were so lucky to have such great leaders from a young age. 11:20:28 Incredibly lucky. 11:20:34 You want a closing song? Closing song. 11:20:37 Yeah. All right, we got one for you. 11:20:41 If you remember the words. 11:20:42 I know it's been a minute. It has been a minute. We haven't done this tune for a while. I usually… 11:20:48 Save this for the dark evenings in a jazz club. I'm just a Broadway baby. 11:20:57 Walking off my tired feet. 11:21:01 Pound and 42nd Street to be in a show. 11:21:09 Broadway, baby. 11:21:14 Learning how to sing and dance. 11:21:18 Waiting for my one big chance to be in a show. 11:21:26 She, I'd like to be. 11:21:30 On some marquee. 11:21:32 All twinkling lights. A spark to pierce the heart from Battery Park to Washington Heights. Someday maybe 11:21:46 All my dreams will be repaid. Heck, I'd even play the maid to be in a show. 11:21:58 Hey, Mr. Producer. I'm talking to you. 11:22:05 You, sir. 11:22:06 I don't need a lot, only what I got. 11:22:10 I'm a Broadway baby. 11:22:18 Making rounds all afternoon. 11:22:22 Eating at a greasy spoon To save on my dog 11:22:30 Broadway, baby. 11:22:34 Slaving at the five and ten. 11:22:39 for that one day when I'll be in a show. 11:22:47 My tiny flat. 11:22:49 There's just my cat. 11:22:51 A bed and a chair. Still I'll stick it till I'm on a 11:23:00 All over Times Square. 11:23:06 I stick it long enough I can get distract myself. 11:23:13 Working for a nice man like a Zinfield or a wise man in a great big 11:23:25 Thank you. 11:23:29 Thank you. 11:23:37 Getting professional entertainers 11:23:40 to Lowell Your Pilgrim Houses. 11:23:42 Not gainful for them. 11:23:45 Or easy for us on the program committee. 11:23:47 So we are so very grateful to have these two professional performers. 11:23:52 who take part of their Sunday to be with us. 11:23:56 I am also grateful to… 11:23:59 Bruce, France for being our greeter. 11:24:02 for a coffee and treat setup with Stephanie Lisa and Kenny. 11:24:07 and clean up. There's nobody signed up, so I'm assuming you're all going to hang out. 11:24:14 Our technical staff, Fred Green and Wayne LeBlanc. 11:24:18 I really wanted to ask what happened in Cincinnati, but I didn't do that. 11:24:24 And especially, again, one more round of applause for Kate and Bradley. They were really great. 11:24:38 Fred, can we get the… 11:24:42 extinguishing our flame on there. 11:24:56 So we extinguish our flame. 11:25:11 Don't forget there's treats and coffee in the other room. 11:25:15 And next week. 11:25:18 is our… 11:25:19 holiday program. 11:25:22 So… 11:25:26 Oh, that, yeah. Don't forget that. 11:25:29 The deputy sheriff will be here. 11:25:33 And… 11:25:35 Did you put up the holiday program yet? 11:25:39 Okay, holiday programs, December 22. 11:25:43 That's going to be your chance to entertain the rest of us. 11:25:50 The corral has… 11:25:52 has met and they really, Karen, they really sound… 11:25:56 Wonderful. She said wonderful. 11:26:03 All right? Treats and coffee in the other room. 11:26:05 Thank you again, and thank you again. 11:26:45 If I didn't say it, don't forget, December 29th at Crooners, they'll be performing at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon. 11:26:54 At Crooners on the 29th.
