Ticks

Natural History of Dermacentor variabilis and Ixodes scapularis: Starring Wood Tick and Deer Tick. Gary Averbeck shares his knowledge of ticks at the time of year when they are most active. Based on his years of research, Pilgrim House member and retired U of M Senior Scientist Gary Averbeck will explore the very unusual biology of our area’s two most famous tick species (Deer Ticks and Wood Ticks). Along the way he’ll examine the advanced development traits formed over the species’ 100 million years of evolution, as well as how to identify the two major varieties of ticks in our area, the best way to remove them if bitten, and health risks to watch for.

After the program it’s Soup Sunday. Stay for soup and conversation.
